Funeral Mass for Anthony L, Dobson will be celebrated
July 5, 2001 at 1:00pm at St. Joseph of Cupertino Catholic
Church, NAS Whidbey Island with CDR. Jerome C. Kienzle,
CHC, USNR Celebrant. Cremation will follow with private
family inurnment at a later date.
Anthony Lee “Tony” Dobson, age 55, died June 29, 2001
at Harborview Medical Center, Seattle from injuries
sustained in a tree cutting accident. He was born July 29,
1945 in San Diego, California to Kenneth L. and Bridget (Ceravolo)
Dobson. He was raised in a Navy family and followed his
father’s military career to Kodiak, Alaska; Bremerton;
and Seattle; Oakland; and Pleasanton; California; Astoria,
Oregon, Groton, Connecticut; Cape May, New Jersey and
Seattle.
Tony graduated from Blanchet High School, Seattle in 1964
and went on to Seattle University, receiving his Bachelors
Degree in Biology. During his tenure at Seattle
University, Tony was an active member of the Reserve
Officer Training Corps (ROTC). He enlisted in the U. S.
Navy and received his commission. He was trained as a
flight navigator, guided missile and aviation warfare
specialist. His naval career took him to Pensacola,
Florida, two tours in Guam, California, and Washington. He
also flew with the P-3 community as a typhoon research
chase team. He received certification as a human resources
officer and his final tour of duty was Director of Family
Services Center, Bangor, Washington.
Mr. Dobson left the Navy as a LCDR with twenty years of
active service. He worked for a small marine manufacturing
firm and then accepted a position as a Community
Corrections Officer with the Washington State Department
of Corrections. He worked in the Poulsbo area and in 1992,
transferred to Oak Harbor.
Tony is a member of the Whidbey Island Naval Sailing
Association, the Whidbey Island Super Hash House Harriers
running club, where he is also known at “Frosted
Flake”. He loved sailing on his boat, the Celestial Sea.
He enjoyed hiking, running and scuba diving. He was
married to Evelyn Lee Nelson in Oak Harbor on August 15,
1998.
Mr. Dobson is survived by his wife Evelyn at the family
home, Oak Harbor; by his parents Kenneth L. and Bridget
Dobson of Seattle; one son Anthony J. Dobson with the U.
S. Navy, Pensacola, Florida and one daughter Lara Sirois
and husband Jon of Seattle. He is also survived by three
brothers Ralph Paul Dobson and wife Sharon of Mill Creek,
WA; Kenneth L. Dobson, Jr. and wife Jody of Everett, WA;
Bernard R. Dobson and wife Marti of Seattle and one sister
Teresa Dobson Eidsmoe and husband Bill of Bothell, WA.
Many nieces and nephews also survive.
